ANTIQUARIUM ARBORENSE MUSEUM

The Antiquarium Arborense Museum is the most important museum in the city, and since 1992, it is located within the nineteenth century building of Palazzo Parpaglia, in the historic center of Oristano.

The museum was founded in 1938, and it has a vast archaeological collection of ancient items dating back to various eras, such as the Pischedda, Carta, Sanna Delogu, Pau, Cominacini-Boy, D’Urso-Vitiello archaeological collections.

To these are added further cultural assets (particularly further 10,000 archaeological items) pertaining to the unavailable heritage of the State.

The Museo Archeologico exhibits a valuable retables room, with works such as the retable of San Martino (15th century), the retable of the Holy Christ (1533), and the retable of the Madonna dei Consiglieri (1565).

It is also possible to view the reconstructive model of the city of Tharros as it was in the 4th century AD, and the reconstructive model of the city of Oristano in the 14th century (Giudicale period).

Among its many peculiarities, the Antiquarium Arborense Museum is among the very few in Sardinia to have an exhibition section dedicated to blind and visually impaired people.
